Rifat Ozbek — the star of Turkish fashion

The famous designer, combining in his models national motives with modern fashion streams, was born in Istanbul in 1953...

The beginning of the creative way

The well-known today designer — native of Istanbul, received his first education in Liverpool university, where he studied architecture up to 1972. In 1974 Rifat entered the department of design at “St. Martin’s School of Art” in London. Having graduated from it in three years, he went to army, and when he came back, he started working with Walter Albini. In 1980 Rifat became the designer of «Monsoon» brand. From that moment way to glory and recognition of designer Rifat Ozbek started.

«Ozbek»

In 1984 Rifat Ozbek creates his own brand «Ozbek», the first collection of which was presented in London. In three years the second collection of his clothes was released, it was named «O» and further renamed into «Ozbek». In 1986 the designer was awarded with “Woman Magazine Designer award”. In two years “British Fashion Council” proclaimed Ozbek the Designer of the year. In 1989 Rifat Ozbek presented his collection «New Age» and soon was honoured with the prize “British Glamour award”. In 1992 “British Fashion Council” gave him the rank of the Designer of the year.

In the 90s Rifat Ozbek gambled on the combination of sports and street styles of youth clothes, creating baggy models, that used to be very popular that time. The clothes combined the style of London’s streets and the elements of national Turkish clothes. As the result Ozbek created the clothes of complicated cut, quite different from the works of other designers. His popularity became international in 80s, when he presented the collection of suites, embroidered with luxurious golden threads.

At present Rifat Ozbek is the creative designer of Italian brand - «Pollini».
Critics praise him all the time, naming Rifat the creator of sexy and complicated clothes, and also a stylish and fashionable designer. For real, the collections of Ozbek have always been original, distinctive and exotic.

The designer’s creative inventions in the domain of perfumes are also interesting. For example, his fragrance «Ozbek» is loved by many women, preferring romantic, tender, and sensual perfumes.
