Istanbul Hamam

Best Hamam Baths in Istanbul

There are many hamams in Istanbul, some of which are designed just for a few people. We still recommend you to go to the historical hamam. This is useful, pleasant and interesting. Who does not want to take a steam bath on a marble stone, on which the sultans and their families rested?...

Galatasaray Hamam

This bath was built by order of the Sultan Beyazid II. He ordered to build a hamam in the late 15th century. Hamam functioned until the beginning of 18 century, until it was repaired. Since then the baths - they look like new ones - were never reconstructed. A distinctive feature of the Galatasaray Hamam is that there was no women’s section. In the late 20th century this omission was corrected, and they built a women’s section. So it is not as old as men’s... The furniture in the Galatasaray Hamam is absolutely authentic to one that was here five centuries ago.

Kadirga Hamam

These baths have received their name from the area where they are located. Their neighbor is The Sokollu Mehmed Pasa Mosque. Kadirga Hamam is pretty old - the building was built in the mid-18th century. The governor of Egypt gave money for its construction. From the very beginning the bath was divided into male and female sections. This hamam is popular with locals and there are not many tourists. Accordingly, the service and prices are suitable for everyone. The entire interior is made of marble.

Aga Hamam

These baths are one of the oldest in the city - they refer to the year 1454. That is, this hamam was erected only a year after the capture of Constantinople by Ottoman Turks! The bath is built in oriental style, and consists of a single department. But there is no gender discrimination: they let men inside in the evening and at night, and women - during the day.

Cagaloglu Hamam

These baths were chosen by celebrities who visited Istanbul. British King Edward VII, German Emperor Wilhelm II, Franz Liszt, Rudolf Nureyev, Harrison Ford... Cagaloglu Hamam was built in 1741 by the orders of Sultan Mahmud I. From the beginning there were sections for men and women. This hamam is notable for the fact that it was the last large bath, built in Istanbul. Because of the constant shortage of water in the city hamams were limited in size from 18th century.

Kosk Hamam

Being built in the 15th century, Kosk Hamam still works only for men. However, supervisors don’t pay attention if you come here with your family. Mostly foreigners go there. This hammam is famous for its masseurs who are considered the best in the European part of Istanbul.
