Istanbul Cinema

Emek Movie Theater

Ancient movie theater, located in the Beyoglu district, it is the most popular among the townspeople. The fact is that many of them relate nostalgic memories with this cinema... Besides this one there were such cinemas in this area as the "New Comedy", "Palace", "Tulip", but they were all closed long ago. Now Emek is both a museum and cinema at the same time.

Alcazar Cinema

This is also an old movie theater, which, however, was qualitatively restored several years ago. There is a cafe downstairs, cinema itself is located on the second floor. Once it was a cinema "X" (ie, they demonstrated here movies with erotic content), but now it is gone. Now the "Alcazar" shows advanced European cinema. It is situated in Beyoglu.

Atlas Cinema

Located on the pedestrian Istiklal Avenue, Atlas is in high demand among young people. All Istanbul couples like to go there. This movie theater is located directly above the Istiklal, over the passage, the entrance to which lies directly from this wonderful and most famous streets of Istanbul.

Sureyya Cinema

This is the oldest of all surviving city movie theaters. Its location is not quite typical. Sureyya is located on the Asian side of Istanbul. Cinema building is a historic landmark. Over a hundred years ago it was... the opera house. By the way, the interior of the building has survived until now, so when visiting Sureyya, try to take the box-seats. One can hardly ever imagine to watch a movie while sitting in an opera box...

Typically, movies in Turkey are shown in the original language. They provide captioning for the local population. The sexually explicit scenes are not cut, they are just selling tickets taking your age into account. In Taksim, Istiklal Avenue, there are several so-called "adult" movie theaters. They show erotic and pornographic films. Cost of tickets is slightly higher than for usual movie theater, and the entrance is allowed only for adults.
