Muharram

The Day of Ashura

This is a real Turkish holiday, because the Turks follow Sunni Islam. The day of Ashura is the holiday of Sunni Muslims. On this day believers thank the Creator for the benefits it provides to the prophets. During a celebratory feast guests taste their cult dish "Ashura". It is also called "Noah’s Pudding". According to legend, this dessert was prepared by Noah’s wife of the cereals and fruits, which she has managed to find on Earth after the Flood. The dessert is made of corn, raisins, pomegranate seeds, several types of nuts... According to legend, it was during the holiday of Ashura when the Judgement Day happened.

The Prophet’s Birthday

During this holiday all mosques in Turkey look really amazing. They light up the holiday lights and it looks really stunning. On this day Turkish families cook special biscuits, statuettes of Prophet of sugar, semolina with honey and special lamb sausage with spices.

Night of Absolution

According to legend, it was this night when Allah forgives the sins of believers. Of course, only if believers sincerely repented and asked for mercy. On this day, Muslims do not eat before sunset. But with nightfall they arrange a feast. They serve fruit salads, rice, desserts...
