Did you know...

... contrary to popular myth, drinking alcohol is not an old Russian tradition. Sweets festival

The sweetest days in Turkey after Ramazan month...

This festival is traditional in Turkey and it is celebrated after the Ramazan month. The festival is the end of the 30-days fasting.
The festival is connected with happiness, rest and family. During this festival citizens have three official vacation days to celebrate it.

During the festival tables are full of sweets in Turkish families. Here you can find baklava, Turkish delight, chocolate and other sweets. Besides sweets the festival is full of warmth and friendship among people.
The festival’s traditions consist in giving to each other sweetmeats and asking relatives and other people for apology. The festival unites families. Children come home to greet and visit their parents and celebrate with the whole family at a big table full of sweets and delicious meals.

If someone greets you and gives you sweets you must take it. Otherwise you will offend the person. If a housewife gives you sweets by herself the best way to be grateful is to kiss her hand. Any way, to everyone who will give you sweets you must say “Ellerinize saglik” it means “health for your hands” in Turkish.

During the festival you will see almost empty streets of the city. Even restaurants and clubs are closed. Everyone is home with families and the closest relatives at a big and hearty home table.
