Hotels in Istanbul near Grand bazaar (Kapali Carsi)
Grand bazaar (Kapali Carsi) – the biggest of the biggest bazaars
Bazaar is a symbol of Turkey and Istanbul. It’s a great, noisy, colorful market where you can find everything - from souvenirs and rugs to grocery, bags, pictures and flowers. Grand Bazaar is one of them. Grand Bazaar (Kapali Carsi) is located on a big territory of historic downtown of Istanbul – Beyazit area. If you came to Istanbul, it is better to accommodate in Istanbul hotels next to the Grand Bazaar. You can definitely find some souvenirs that will always remind you of your unforgettable trip to beautiful Istanbul.
Hookah
Obviously, the most Turkish souvenir you can bring from Istanbul is a hookah. It’s a device to smoke tobacco or just aromatic mixtures of dry herbs or even fruits (for example, apples, peaches). The most important thing is to choose a hookah as experts say, so it is better to spend some time while choosing a hookah for you. The best thing to do is to buy a good hookah, not the one that is going to be broken into pieces already on board of the plane. How to use it? It’ s very easy. Slowly breathe in the smoke through the mouthpiece. The air is heated by the coals, it goes through tobacco and you breathe in water purified smoke. It’s a real pleasure for a smoker.
Apple tea
They call it whiskey for a tourist in Turkey and offer it in any store you enter to just look at souvenirs, rugs, clothes, bags or look around. They will immediately serve you with a cup of apple tea. It ’s really refreshing. You should bring a pack of apple tea when you leave home. It’ s not very expensive. Drink it with pleasure!
Raki
It’s a sort of vodka, but still not quite. The thing is that this drink of 45 degrees is supposed to be mixed with water. That’s why vodka changes its color into white (Turks call it "lion’s milk"). It tastes strong, different, and the most important thing is that you can drink it without fear of having a headache on the following day. You won’t get a headache if you mix raki with water and drink not much.
Eye
People do believe in curse and evil eye in Turkey, or should we say they used to believe. This is the reason why almost everything is surrounded by little flat blue eyes of glass. With time people stopped being so very superstitious but the nice souvenir "Fatima eye" is still popular. They sell it everywhere and in big quantities. Get some of them for yourself!
Oil
Not many people know that the traditions of using olive oil in Turkey aren’t less popular than in Italy, Greece or Spain. It can be explained by the fact that a majority of Greek towns were located in Minor Asia, which is in Turkey. There is plenty of olive oil in Turkey, it is good and two or three times cheaper than in any European country. So, a two liter bottle of olive oil from Turkey is also a good souvenir!
