What amenities do contemporary hotels grant to disabled people?
Modern travels are widely available for everybody. Around two hundred years ago, only the men with strong physical conditions could afford themselves a vacation to the lands, which are several hundred kilometers away. Today everyone travels, including disabled people! And plenty of world hotels, including any Istanbul hotel, render all kinds of services for disabled persons. What does the room for disabled person have to include?
Parking
On the territory of hotels’ parking, where the vehicles of disabled visitors are implied to park also, there are special wide areas for the automobiles of disabled people on wheelchairs. The dimensions of these automobiles differ from normal ones.
Entrance
It is obvious that at the hotels’ entrances there must be ramps. They are special inclined planes for wheelchairs to go upstairs. The slope of the ramp has to be less than 30 degrees; otherwise, it may create inconvenience for disabled persons.
Rooms
The most important fact that is needed to be mentioned is that there have to be no thresholds in the rooms constructed for disabled people. These thresholds bring only obstacles and inconvenience for the guests. Next observation is the width of the doorways; it must be not less than one meter. If these doorways are with doors, they should be without auto-closing mechanism. The room for disabled is usually bigger than any standard room. All in-room amenities, which may be needed for the visitors, have to be included. For example, eyelet and closing chain; if they will be built-in on the standard level, the person, which has limited abilities, may even not rich them. That’s why eyelet and closing chain in such rooms are lowered to the level of around one meter from the floor. The same rule is used for sockets and switches.
Elevator / lift
It is quite often that the rooms for disabled are situated on the ground floor or first floor. But, it may sometimes be located on the upper floors. In such cases the hotels’ administrations have to provide the guests with elevators or furnish the lifts with hand-rails.
Wheelchair
Wheelchair for the disabled person is the same as legs for a healthy one, so, the hotels provide the guests with special rooms for wheelchairs to be parked there. However, to be able to move inside the room, the visitors will be given special hotel wheelchairs, which are lighter in weight, convenient and cleaner than theirs.
TV and mobile
If the room for disabled includes TV, it will be placed on rotating plane. Wardrobes in such rooms are on rails and are not very high, around one or one and half meters.
Bathroom
As a rule, the bathrooms for disabled include hand-rails. Holding them, the guests may conveniently have bath. Mirrors, hair-dryers, the props for soap - are also on the level of about one meter from the floor.
As you see, especially equipped rooms for disabled make the rest very easy and convenient for any guest.
