Istanbul lavatories. How to find WC in Istanbul.

There is no any problem of finding a toilet in Istanbul

Six useful facts about toilets of Istanbul

In the city, in ANY cafe, restaurant, grocery, shop there is a toilet. As you made a step in, instantly, you become a guest, and may visit the lavatory. In case, you don’t have a need to purchase something, so use public toilet. However, if you didn’t succeed in finding a public lavatory, so approach to any office or shop, and ask the security guard or salesperson to let you in and take you to the local WC. You may pay for it (no more than $1 or 1YTL), but it is not obligatory.

Distinguish between "Toilet" and "European toilet"

On the streets of Istanbul and other big cities we may observe two different notices: simply "Toilet" or "European toilet". The latter – is a widely know lavatory with WC pan. The former – contains two props for legs, having prominent ribs, and a hole behind, and a pitcher, made of clay, with water for washing at the side.

You may find bidet in every toilets

In women lavatories, even in public ones, in Istanbul, there are bidets. In men’s there is a rubber hose for washing. The religion doesn’t allow Muslims to leave toilet without making ablution. By the way, there is a rational explanation for this – Istanbul people almost do not suffer from hemorrhoids, because the do not use toilet paper and perform the ablution in more natural way.

There are also Public toilets in Istanbul

They are not widely used, because are present almost everywhere. For a public WC visit you have to pay from 50 cents to $1. There are toilet paper, soap, bidet in public lavatories. All of them are included in price.

There is a toilet in every petrol station

On the territory of every petrol office of the city (country) there is a small shop. You may go shopping or take something to eat there. And, of course, there is a toilet. However, here it is absolutely free.

There are toilets in Mosques

Not only in toilets, but also in every Mosque there are the places for ablution. There you may wash your face, hands or legs also for free.
